The Deserter Index CDROM

Details of soldiers deserting from British regiments including uunits of the Honourable East India Company were published in the Police Gazette. This index is based on lists published between 1828 and 1840. Lists over 17,000 soldiers born in England, Wales and Overseas, 5000 in Scotland and 12,000 in Ireland. The index lists name, age, birthplace, former occupation, regiment and date deserted. Further details, including physical descriptions, can be found in the original Police Gazettes, which can be accessed on microfilm via LDS Family History Centres, at The National Archives, Kew, or at the MLFHS Resource Centre in Manchester.
